Classes & Curriculum |
Science at WilsonThe goals of our science curriculum are to foster and encourage scientific curiosity and to build a foundation of conceptual knowledge and hands-on experiential methodology. These factors provide our students with an elementary understanding of the workings of the world and the life it supports, as well as serve as a solid basis for more advanced study in secondary school. The curriculum uses the standards and resources developed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the National Science Teachers Association Standards. The science program is rooted strongly in intellectual content and advances in degrees of difficulty as our students progress through the grades; each grade level builds and expands upon the skills the students acquired previously. Six fields of study are covered by all grades each year: biology, chemistry, earth sciences, environment, health, and physics. Most important, the science curriculum at Wilson is organized vertically and has been developed to help students acquire a beginning understanding of scientific literacy - a prerequisite to achieve a fully productive and contributing life in our technological society. |
