Classes & Curriculum |
Art at WilsonArt is a part of every student's education at Wilson. The curriculum offers age appropriate experiences, and instruction is three-pronged, focusing on art history and appreciation, the elements of art and the creation of art. In art history, students are invited to view excellent and unique works and to discuss how they were responsible for changing the way people see and think. The children learn that the elements of art-line, color, form, shape, value, texture, and space-can be used individually or together to give a work of art its existence. Students from age three to sixth grade are immersed in the creation of art at Wilson. From pre-kindergarten through first grade, the emphasis in art is the process not the product. During the "art process," students discover creativity, surprise, fun, and sometimes frustration, an important aspect of the learning process. From second grade through sixth grade, the product assumes a more important role. Students work on line drawings and watercolor paintings, weaving and ceramics, fabric batik, set design, and three-dimensional works. In sixth grade, the students undertake an intensive study of oil painting, culminating in a school-wide exhibit of their works. |
